2021 Triangle Bikeworks Celebrates

10th Anniversary!

Our maiden long distance, history filled tour, was the Underground Railroad in 2011. We’ll have a heap of celebrations as the year rolls along.

MILE MARKERS COLLECTION

ALMOST DO OVER,

DO OVER

Let’s just say that after the year from hell where Satan finally found a match on some stupid dating site, 2021 didn’t start off great.

Looking at the way January started, they may be in the midst of starting a family!

Anyway, it’s safe to say I sort of got distracted that first full week of January, so I don’t have a member highlight this month. I’ll do better in February.

2021 MLK DAY OF SERVICE

01

Our MLK Day of Service with our partner, Triangle Land Conservancy, had to be cancelled due to the rise in NC cases of COVID-19.In true Triangle Bikeworks fashion, the youth pivoted and made the event a group ride along the East Coast Greenway/American Tobacco Trail and collected any trash along a half-mile stretch just after Solite Park in Durham.

FANTASTIC BIKING DAY

The weather was a fantastic biking day with sunshine and 46* (perfect for all the layers we had on). There was certainly more trash than we expected. But in the five hours we were able to dedicate to the effort we collected almost 40lbs in the half-mile section.

The “luggage” you see behind my bike was also found on the trail in great condition. It was very useful in the transport of the trash.

TBW Circle of Friends

We’re hoping to close our funding gap of $21,000 by the second quarter. Many thanks to all of you who’ve contributed to our Fund the Gap campaign by already investing $4,062.26! There’s two other ways you can help us fund the gap. We invite you to join our Circle of Friends.

RELIABLE

When you come into the Circle of Friends you contribute to our cause monthly

You also have the ability create your own fundraising page to support Triangle Bikeworks. It’s easier than you think and just like GoFundMe.But for us.

Join our Circle of Friends

February, by the way, is my Birthday Month! With that said, I’ll be celebrating my birthday by raising money for TBW. I’ll be the first to join the Circle, unless you beat me to it. Not sure why I hadn’t thought of this before, I coulda been raising money for the last 35 years!

Celebrate your birthday too, by raising a few dollars for Triangle Bikeworks. I guarantee it’ll be much more pleasurable than getting another pair of socks or dinner for two OUTSIDE in the cold.

THE MECHANICS OF BIKES

YOUTH WRENCH NIGHT

Things are looking very solid with our partnership with the Durham Bike CoOp. We have secured the afternoons of Mondays for the next few months starting in February, to host our Youth Wrench Night (late afternoon, actually). Due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety, Youth Wrench Night will be invite only.

We’ll be getting back to basics and learning the bike from the nuts and bolts on up to the seat. This is the way we had it the early days when Rich Giorgi and The ReCyclery team would give the lessons. It’ll be good to be back in the shop with learning young minds (old minds, too).

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

OPEN OFFICE HOURS

04

You can call me anytime but I’ve set up a link where you can sign up for a one-on-one call with me. This is to discuss anything about Triangle Bikeworks you have in mind.

Sign up here and I’ll call you to schedule our one-on-one meeting.

BIKES & BARNYARDS SUMMER CAMP

With the rise in cases in NC for COVID-19 and a new strain of the virus hitting our shores we’re just not ready to call it a go for this summer’s camp.

Now would be the time we’d normally announce summer camp registrations. We’re just as concerned as you are about the inability to plan. But please stay tuned. We’ll let you know if we feel it’s safe to do so in the coming months and then we’ll ask how you feel about it.
